Leonardo is a born warrior. From a very early age, Leonardo expressed an interest in the martial arts and would be the first to master each and every technique taught by Splinter.
Because of his commitment and gift for quick learning and adapting of techniques and training methods, Leonardo quickly became Splinter's star pupil and best ninja among Splinter's four pupils.
rigorously training and eating healthy to be in tiptop shape, aswell as educating himself in the arts of strategy and tactics, psychology, physics, physiology, and human behaviour, aswell as studying philosophy, regularly meditating, and excersising/training in the art of ki/qi/chi manipulation and harmonization, there's no doubt that Leonardo is strong in body, mind, and spirit.
From an early age, Leonardo has always been charismatic, reliable, sharp, dependable, strong willed, skilled, and an initiator. The natural makings of a leader.
Due to Leonardo's merits, Splinter assigns Leonardo to be incharge of his three brothers in Splinter's absence.
Because of the elivated rank in the clan, Leonardo felt the need to be super focused and very serious and stern with his brothers and himself.
This behaviour caused some tention between him and his brothers (mainly with Raphael and Michelangelo) who would often suggest Leonardo to loosen up.
Over time, Leonardo does gradually become less overbearing while still maintaining his authoritive status, respect of his brothers, and the safety and wellbeing of his family.
Leonardo is not without hobbies beyond martial arts. He also enjoys reading, arobics, yoga, camping (for the joy of being one with nature), and a good game of Go (very old east-asian game).
Dispite Leonardo's demeanor of being very mature, Leonardo occasianlly plays video games and will, out of a spontanious impulse, innitiate a game of tag, hide 'n' go seek, follow the leader, etc.
Leonardo expresses a great love of art and is actually quite talented in arts and crafts such as drawing, painting, and even pottery aswell as carpentry.
impressively enough, Leonardo is also quite the blacksmith and actually forges his own swords from raw metals. He may also be responsible for supplying his brothers their weapons by making them aswell.
As gifted and talented as Leonardo is, he is not without flaws.
He was not quite the fearless and confident person he is now.
In the past, Leonardo possessed fears which he eventually overcame. Of those fears were a fear of hights, a fear of snakes, and the most devistating and longest-lasting one of them all: a fear of failure. His fear of failure was indeed the most crippling one of all, and dispite Leonardo's efforts of overcoming it by trying to become "perfect", it had always held him back from achieving his true potential.
It had crippled him enough to the extent of making him distant and cold towards everyone, including his family.
Interestingly enough, as Leonardo finally accepted that he's simply mortal and can only do the best he can, and that perfectionism is an idealism but not a reality, Leonardo had instantly reached a state of enlightenment, transcended wisdom, and self-acceptance.
Since then, Leonardo has shown to be an unstoppable force against his enemies, very supportive and dependable towards his family and friends, and has even surpassed Splinter's teachings.
When in battle situations, Leonardo usually arranges the team so that Raphael and Michelangelo are covering his flanks and Donatello is covering his rear while Leonardo takes care of the frontal assault.
On missions, Donatello is often Leonardo's right-hand man; and when splitting up into two teams, Leonardo often pairs himself with Raphael while pairing Donatello with Michelangelo. The main idea behind this is most likely so he's able to look out for Raphael while Donatello looks out for Michelangelo.
Also, when ambushed or ambushing a group of opponents, Leonardo tends to combat the head man alone while his brothers handle the henchmen and followers.
Often times Leonardo is the only one skilled and abled enough to challenge oppressing and powerful opponents such as the Shredder.
The sword is not only Leonardo's choice of weapon, but also the weapon recommended by Splinter. A weilder of the sword has to have keen senses, an iron will, steely attitude in combat, and an unflinching ki. Leonardo possesses these things aswell as being the least troubled by death and killing. Often times, due to the lethal nature of the sword, Leonardo takes many lives in battle and is regarded as the most dangerous opponent of his team.
Beyond simply being a naturally gifted warrior who possesses a powerful fighting spirit, some actually believe Leonardo to be the reincarnation of the legendary swordsman Miyamoto Musashi, or even the reincarnation of Hamato Yoshi himself.
