The TMNT canon story is sectionized in volumes. The first one that started it all back in the 80s, the second one that revised the TMNT in the 90s, and the current ongoing one today. Which of these do you favore most?
As for me, my favorite is Volume 1. It has the first TMNT comic (my favorite comic), and the story is so rich, entertaining and endearing... untill it got silly with all those guest artists. Thankfuly we got "City At War".

Definitely Vol. 1. I'm not very good with descriptions but I know that it's my favorite because it develops their characters nicely. Plus I like the art, the humans actually looked human, unlike vol. 4 where they look like fish with big mouths and funny eyes.

I am going withe the crowd and also saying volume one.
It is filled with all the classic stories and really is the place that shaped the characters into who they are.
Volume two is silly with a few exceptions... I like the River Triology.
Volume four is having trouble holding my interest... nothing against the mirage guys I think they are amazing.... I just don't think I would have creatively have taken the same route as they are.

I haven't read any of the Mirage comics aside from the 1st one and only because it was/is available on the official TMNT site :\ I bet it's terrific. All I have is the Image TMNT. ^^

I vote for Volume 1, as well. Volume 2 is a close second, though.
I'm kind of iffy on Volume 4. It's got its good parts, but then Laird just whips a revelation on you and you end up going, "What the-- HUH?" (ex., April a drawing come to life)
Also, the art leaves something to be desired. Jim Lawson was better when he drew for the Archie series. Now I look at his work and pull a Letterman (tug at collar muttering, "Ugh...").

Vol. 1 was by far my favorite, it was a great blend of stories. There was alot of ninja action with a dash of science fiction.
I cant stand vol. 4 because of the slow pacing and for what they did to April...
