~Yeah, I don't think it was a good course to follow, and obviously neither did E&L, but I think this kind of playing around with concepts is what any serious artist/creator has to do.
And really, we do see echos of some of these ideas in the comics that followed: Rabid bat Splinter from the image series, that Rising Sun kind of do-rag Leo is wearing has appeared in the Archie books and I'm pretty sure elsewhere, and of course, poor Raphael's current monstrous problem in the TMNT books.
I love how the artwork looked when those two collaborated. That's the biggest loss I think in the TMNT franchise; the split between Kevin and Peter.

Looks like Laird took the Raph idea and ran with it in Volume 4, tweaking it a bit, of course.
I think the only cool thing that would've come out of this would be Donatello. I really liked that idea where he gained telepathy while losing eyesight in the process; gaining a strength and a weakness.
Considering my first statement, I would actually like to see that happen in the new comic series.
